New Year’s Eve Magic Shows!

Saturday, December 22nd, 2012

This New Year’s Eve I’ll be performing at the Pantages Theater in Tacoma, WA as part of their First Night celebration!

First Night is a family friendly arts festival held on New Year’s Eve in many cities across the USA.  My shows are from between 7:00pm and 11pm in the Pantages Theater and I  think I’m doing about 5 performances that night!

Come out and have a great time!

First Night Tacoma!

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

On New Year’s Eve I’ll be performing again at First Night Tacoma!  I performed there last year (you can see pics here) at the historic Pantages Theater and that’s the same venue I’ll be at this  year.

If don’t know about First Night, many big cities have them and here’s a quick description of what they are about:

First Night is a North American artistic and cultural celebration on New Year’s Eve, taking place from afternoon until midnight. Some cities have all their events during the celebration outside, but some cities have events that are hosted indoors by organizations in the city, such as churches and theaters. Since it happens on New Year’s Eve, First Night celebrations are actually held on the last night of the old year. First Night celebrates a community’s local culture, often featuring music, dance, comedy, art, fireworks and, in some cities, ice sculptures and parades.

I’ve performed at different First Night events in different cities for probably the last 8 or 9 years and they are the  best!  They are a family friendly alcohol free arts festival.  As a performer I dislike doing my show at drinking new year’s events, they always end up as train wrecks…but not First Night!

You can see my schedule for First Night Tacoma at: http://www.firstnighttacoma.org/pantages-theater/#top

Come out and have a good time!

National Magic Day!

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

Today is Halloween and it’s also National Magic Day!   October 31st was chosen for National Magic Day because it’s the same day that Harry Houdini died.

Every year after Houdini’s death his wife held a seance to try to contact him.  Here’s a little description from the 1936 (10th anniversary of his death) Houdini Seance:

The final Halloween Houdini seance was October 31, 1936 (the tenth anniversary of Harry Houdini’s death), on the roof of the Knickerbocker Hotel in Hollywood.
This was the greatest attempt to contact a spirit.
Houdini’s widow made her final effort to reach her husband, Harry Houdini, after his death, according to an elaborate plan that they had agreed to, that whichever of them died first would try for ten years to get in touch with the other, on the other (living) side. Although Harry Houdini was known as an antagonist to the spiritualists, he seems to have wanted to believe that it was possible for the living and the dead to communicate, but he demanded proof.
Some 300 invited guests formed the outer circle, with 13 scientists, specialists in the occult, reporters, magicians, and spiritual leaders joining Mrs. Houdini in an inner circle.

And here’s a link to the audio of the final Houdini Seance:  http://archive.org/details/TheFinalHalloweenHoudiniSeance_860

It’s very interesting to listen!
