Pacific Northwest Juggling Convention

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

This weekend I’m performing at the Pacific Northwest Juggling Convention in Corvallis, Oregon.  In addition to performing in the Saturday night public show (6/30/12) I’ll be teaching a workshop on how to crack a bullwhip (date/time TBA).

This is a free juggling convention and the public show is also free to attend, but seating is on a first come first served basis.  If you are in the Corvallis area come out and have a good time!

Magic Workshop in Vancouver, WA

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

This Friday I’m teaching a magic workshop for amateur and professional magicians in Vancouver, WA.  Normally I don’t mention these because while they are sort of open to the general public, they really aren’t for the general public.  What I mean is if someone with no experience in magic tricks were to show  up they really wouldn’t know what’s going on.

The reason I bring it up is that the Columbian Newspaper picked up my magic workshop as an event: http://www.columbian.com/events/2012/jun/29/9752/ Hopefully that won’t have to many “muggles” come out!

If you know someone that does some magic tricks let them know and they’ll learn something new if they come out!

Behind the scenes peek…

Monday, June 25th, 2012

Recently I performed at a casino and one of the acts asked me how long it took me to work with the tech guy to get all of my musical cues down.  He was surprised to hear that it took less than a minute!  I actually run all of my own music, I just need to plug into the house sound system.

Here’s a quick behind the scenes peek at how I run the music in my show.

It’s simply an ipod with a remote control!  Technology is awesome!

  • Giggling in delight as Daisy the wonder rat kisses me…on the lips!
  • Seeing the look of wonder in the kid’s eyes as I demonstrate the skill that earned me a Guinness World Record

It’s National Juggler Day!

Saturday, June 16th, 2012

Today is National Juggler Day and to celebrate that here’s a video of me juggling three knives while blindfolded on a balance board:

This video was featured on Dube Juggling’s website a few months ago.  Dube is the top maker and retailer of juggling equipment in the USA.    The juggling trick I did in that video is very dangerous and it’s one of the few things that I’ve done in the show that caused me a lot of stress.  Luckily for me it’s not in the current show and I’m sleeping better at night!

Something New…

Monday, June 11th, 2012

Recently I found the coolest thing at a junk shop during a trip to Eastern Washington, it’s an Applause Sign!

Applause Sign

I’ve worked out something to do with this in show and if you come out and see me you’ll probably get to see it in action this summer (at least for indoor shows) I don’t know how well you’ll be able to see it outdoors with the sun shinning on it.

Summer Show Season is Here!

Friday, June 8th, 2012

Yesterday marked the beginning of my very busy performing season!  Between now and Mid September I’ll perform about 150 ish shows around the Pacific Northwest.  You can view my public show schedule at http://louiefoxx.com/calendar.php, I’m doing a lot more shows than what’s listed, however since they aren’t open to the general public they aren’t listed on that calendar.

If you come out to see me be sure to say HI after the show!

Using Magic to Teach Science…

Monday, June 4th, 2012

Tonight on the internet I stumbled upon a little manuscript that someone wrote for science teacher to use magic as a tool to teach science.  What surprised me was that one of the tricks they use as an example was a creation of mine!

It’s a trick called marbles, however it’s not 100% my creation.   The science behind the orignal trick is very old, however the original verison didn’t work very well.  When I was a senior in high school I stumbled upon a way to improve this trick make it work a lot better.  I sold this improved version to magicians for many years and some magic shops still sell it, I just don’t promote it very much anymore.

Personally I found it very interesting and flattering that they decided to my version of the trick for their demonstration and not the original, “classic” version.   Having a stranger notice that my version of the trick is a HUGE improvement over the original is pretty cool!
