Finally…

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

One thing that my show has never had is a “Spit Take”.  After all these years I’ve finally got one in the show!  The camera didn’t  pick up my daughter’s audio, but she says, “Good job Dad” in the video clip.

Here’s the spit take:

Des Moines magician Louie Foxx & comedians shocked & awed Tin Theater audience | The Highline Times / Des Moines News

Friday, February 24th, 2012

Last night I performed at the Tin Theater and my local newspaper the Highline Times was there and they did a little write up on the show:

The Tin Theater in Burien hosted Des Moines magician Louie Foxx, pictured top left, & comedians Mike Coletta, the host, top right, & the unsettlingly amusing Emmett Montgomery, bottom right. They reunite Feb. 29 at the Comedy Underground in Pioneer Square.

While last night’s live show at the Tin Theater, 923 SW 152nd St., featured one magician, Des Moines’ Louie Foxx, and two comedians, Seattle’s Emmett Montgomery and Renton’s Mike Coletta, Foxx pulled some jokes out of his hat and the comics had a few tricks up their sleeves to keep the almost sell-out audience of 35 guessing, and laughing too. Theater owner Dan House wore a smile during much of the 90-minute offering.

The chirpy Foxx connected with the crowd by snapping his cowboy whip while blindfolded and holding a beer bottle, at a banana held by a nervous audience volunteer, and, staying with the fruit theme, later made a cantaloupe and at least three oranges appear out of “nowhere” on a small folding table, and creating an action silhouette of a dog consuming a rabbit with his hand puppet shadows. He was caught saying, “My 7 year-old daughter loves this trick” which served to endear the audience.

Montgomery’s quiet delivery of angsty humor included material about his beard, including, “It’s what many admire most about me and all I have to do is keep sharp objects away from my face”, about his 30-pound evil cat Walter, and his fascination with procreation which succeeded to unsettle the audience, producing nervous laughter. Off-stage, his edge softened when he told the Highline Times about his part-time gig at the Frye Art Museum downtown where he and his wife fell in love, and said he is a distant relative of the bewitching Elizabeth Montgomery.

Host Coletta told self-deprecating humor about striking out with the ladies. He recalled embracing a girl, “I hug left, but this girl hugged right and then we touched faces and she was like, ‘Are you trying to make out with me? If I said, ‘Yeah’ then I’m that ‘creepy guy’ If I said, ‘No’, I’d look like I am afraid of affection.”

The Tin Alley will provide such live shows the fourth Thursday of every month. The three magicians will appear together at the Comedy Underground Feb. 29.

New Trick in the Show!

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

Yesterday I performed at the Auburn Ave Theater as opening act for stand up comedian Bobby Tessel.  It’s been a year or two since I’ve performed at the Auburn Ave Theater and it’s has some remodeling done and it looks great!

For the last few weeks I’ve been working on a new stunt for the show.  It’s hoop and cup balancing.  Last night was my first attempt in front of a live audience and I think it went over well:

Next  up will be writing some more jokes and tightening it up a bit!

Blindfolded Knife Juggling!

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

If you saw my family show last summer you probably saw me juggle three clubs while blindfolded on a balance board.  While that’s a fun juggling stunt, the one that caused me a lot of stress was at my adult shows I juggled three knives while blindfolded!

A video of me doing this was the featured video on Dube Juggling’s youtube channel last week.  Dube Juggling produces top of the line juggling products for amateur and professional jugglers.  For more info click the banner below:

Magic Show in Roslyn, Wa – Pics

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

I recently came across some pictures from a show I did last summer in Roslyn, WA. It was for the Roslyn library and if I remember right it was the last A World of Magic show that I did that summer.  There are a lot of pictures some of me doing the show and some of people watching it, I think computer people would call this a “photo dump”.

Today I’ve got two shows and then I get to enjoy a day off tomorrow!
