Yesterday I got an email from Dube Juggling that a video of me doing a very using trick with a bullwhip is currently featured on their YouTube channel. Within the Variety Performance scene this is a pretty big deal. Here’s the video they are showing:
Dube Juggling is the biggest manufacturer and seller of top of the line juggling equipment and props for skill based performers. So they sell things like juggling balls and clubs, but they also sell things like balance boards, lasso rope and bullwhips.
A lot of people don’t know that I’m a pretty good juggler as well. Here’s a video of me juggling three clubs on a balance board:
Over the last six months or so I’ve been adding music to my magic and variety show. I spent this morning working on a system to keep track of what tracks are playing. With the help of another magician from Ohio I’m using a cool system.
My music is kept on an iPod and I’ve replaced the album artwork with numbers.
Now all I have to do is glance at the iPod to see where I am in my playlist!
Now all you have to do to see this system in action is to check me out at a live show. To see where I’m performing where the general public can come out and watch visit my show calendar.
Today is a day off for me…well it’s a day off in the sense that I’m not performing any live magic or variety shows. However don’t be jealous I will be working today and probably harder than on a day I’m performing shows.
Today after I return the calls to people I’ve been playing phone tag with on Friday I’m doing rehearsals of the four shows that I’ve written for this summer! Each magic and variety show will be presented in different venues like Libraries, summer camps, fairs / festival, or private events.
I’ve finally got all of the shows written and all the props for the shows built, not it’s time to rehearse and start tweaking my scripts! I’m very excited to be bringing back the cups and balls trick, I did about three years ago.
This trick was in the magic show I did for festivals, but is now going to be in the magic show that I’ll be doing at summer camps. So if you’ve got me scheduled to visit your camp, you’ll love this trick! If you haven’t got me schedule to visit your camp, I’ve got a few time slots left this summer give me a call at 206-669-3928 now to schedule!
Here’s a fun little magic trick / stunt you can do when you visit your family for Easter. It’s the Amazing Egg Balancing Trick. You have people try to balance an egg on it’s point. Of course that’s impossible so no one can…until you show them!
Here’s how you do it, you’ll need an egg (hard boiled or straight from the chicken) and a bit of salt:
You need an egg and some table salt
Balance the egg in the salt
Let go of the egg
Gently blow across the table to remove salt and Viola! the egg is balanced!
Yesterday was the Saturday before Easter (that means today is Easter, so happy Easter) and I perform at a ton of community Easter Egg Hunts. Yesterday I performed at four of these events.
As the crowd was coming in a little girl whispers loudly, “See mom I told you I’d be the same magician!” She had seen me at my first show that day. I was a bit worried that she’d get bored during the show, but she laughed harder than all the kids at the magic show. I could see her get excited right before something funny or cool was about to happen. I’m glad she had a great time twice yesterday!
Of course it’s always a good idea to go out an contact the venue before heading out to a show to make sure there aren’t any last minute changes in time /date / location.
Also I perform hundreds of other shows each year that aren’t open to the public. This private shows aren’t listed on the calendar.
A few weeks ago I got a call from the Pike Place Market asking me to be a “Local Celebrity” guest bell ringer to start the market’s day. The decided on me because I chose the Market Magic Shop as the place to set a new Guinness World Record. Simply calling me a celebrity will get me to show up to almost anything, so of course I agreed.
On Friday April 22nd, 2011 I’ll be the Pike Place Market’s first guest bell ringer to start the day. If you aren’t doing anything that day and want to come out and watch me ring the bell it’ll happed at 9:30am (sharp) at the pike place market.
Right now I’m finishing up filling my schedule for May 2011, if you are interested in a show give me a call at 206-669-3928 and mention you saw the 15% off discount on my blog and you’ll save a few bucks!!!
To get the 15% off you must call me to schedule a show that will take place anytime in May 2011 by April 30th, 2011. Availability is limited, so call now to get your desired date and time!
Also this offer is only good on “local shows”, shows taking place in the Puget Sound area.
There’s a trade group for magicians called the International Brotherhood of Magicians. This group was founded in 1922 by two magicians and is still around today with 14,000 members! Every month they publish a magazine called “The Linking Ring”, named after the classic magic trick.
One of the features of the magazine is what they call a parade. A parade is a contribution of original tricks by magicians. Occasionally they have “one man parades” which is a collection of tricks by one person. This month’s Linking Ring Magazine is features a One Man Parade that I wrote!
Paul Lelekis who reviewed my contribution said, “This parade is excellent
It’s 23 tricks (16 pages longs) that I created and decided to share with the magic community. Unfortunately this is a private magazine for “Magician’s Only” and I can’t share it with you, if you know a magician have them take a peek at it.
If you are interested in learning magic tricks the IBM has local groups in the Puget Sound Area:
